At Empowered Readers, we provide Orton-Gillingham based one on one private tutoring to students of all ages. Based on the initial assessment of a student’s learning level, we create customized lesson plans. The plans are specific to each student and tailored to empower them with reading and writing skills, week after week. Additionally, our process also includes intermediate measurements of progress. We use a combination of informal and norm-referenced assessments to chart the progress of our students. This helps us understand what they may be learning quicker and what areas they need more help with.

Our tutoring sessions can be in person or online. We certainly believe that the Orton-Gillingham’s multi-sensory approach is key to being effective in our lessons. Using a variety of collaborative and interactive tools, online or in-person, we are able to provide our students a truly immersive experience. We include audio, visual and finger-on-screen haptic (touch) interaction in each and every lesson. The students enjoy learning and we most definitely enjoy teaching them! As a result, given the right tool set and instruction, students taught online vs. in-person accomplish similar improvements in skills.

Above all, we teach students around the world. We currently have students in California, Oregon, Washington, Nebraska, Colorado, Ohio, Florida, England, and Costa Rica, ranging from 1st – 12th grade, with whom we are able to successfully tutor in-person or online. Therefore, our students are never limited by distance in order to access the best quality tutoring they should receive.

If you feel your child needs Orton-Gillingham instruction, reach out to us. We will have an initial conversation to make sure we’re able to understand and meet your needs. After the initial assessment is complete, we conduct private tutoring sessions typically two times a week on non-consecutive days. This frequency of instruction will help them progress as quickly as possible.

Orton-Gillingham works for children of most ages as long as they can attend to the lessons.  It can also be beneficial in teaching adults who have not mastered reading skills.
